Detroit TigersvsHouston Astros
DET 2/HOU 4
Things to say
Astros took down the Tigers 4-2 at Daikin Park.
01
opener
Astros squeaked out a 4-2 over Detroit last night. Tight game most of the way, Houston just had a little more in the tank late.
02
key player
Houston's bats finally woke up in the middle innings — heart of the order doing what it's supposed to do.
03
hot take
Tigers manager went to the pen way too early. You've got a starter cruising, let him eat another inning.
04
deep cut
Detroit's now 30-43 and Houston clawed back to 34-41 — both these teams are way under where anyone had them in March.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if Houston can keep it rolling — they need every win they can get to climb back into the wild card chat.
The recap
Astros took this one 4-2 at Daikin, grinding out a quiet series opener against a Tigers club that's been scuffling. Without a box score in front of me it's hard to pin the hero, but Houston's been leaning on the heart of the order to manufacture just enough, and two runs is a tough number to climb back from when their pen gets the ball with a lead.
Detroit drops to 30-43 and you can feel the season slipping — they needed a starter to go seven and steal one on the road. Astros to 34-41, still chasing, but a win's a win.
