Detroit TigersvsSan Francisco Giants
DET 2/SF 5
Things to say
The Giants beat the Tigers 5-2 at Oracle Park.
01
opener
Giants took it 5-2 at home. Detroit hung around early but San Francisco pulled away and never gave it back. Solid getaway-day win.
02
key player
Whoever they ran out on the mound got into his stuff — Detroit's heart of the order looked lost all night. That's the guy who won them the game.
03
hot take
Tigers are a game under .500 and they play like it. All that talk about them being buyers? Not with an offense that goes quiet for five innings.
04
deep cut
Oracle Park keeps eating fly balls alive. Couple of those Detroit outs leave the yard in half the parks in the league — that ballpark is worth a run a night to the Giants.
05
exit
Anyway, let's see if Detroit can bounce back tomorrow before they fly out — this series still swings on the finale.
The recap
The Giants took care of business at Oracle Park, knocking off the Tigers 5-2 in a tidy one for the home crowd. San Francisco built the lead and let the bullpen slam the door, never really letting Detroit get comfortable at the plate.
The Tigers, who've been hanging around .500, couldn't string enough together to threaten late. Chalk it up as a solid home win that nudges the Giants a step forward.
