Detroit TigersvsCleveland Guardians
DET 3/CLE 4
Things to say
The Cleveland Guardians walked off the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in 10 innings at Progressive Field.
01
opener
Guardians took it 4-3 in extras. Tie game going to the tenth, then Cleveland ends it in walk-off fashion. Classic getaway-day baseball, came down to the last swing.
02
key player
Whoever came up in the tenth for Cleveland is the story. You leave the yard or plate the runner in that spot and you're the hero all night. That's the at-bat everyone's talking about.
03
hot take
Detroit should've never let it get to the tenth. They had the heart of the order up in the ninth and left the runner stranded. That loss is on the bats, not the pen.
04
deep cut
Tie game in the tenth means somebody was working with the free runner on second. One bunt, one grounder, and it's over. Small ball won that inning, not the long ball.
05
exit
Anyway, both these teams are scrapping under .500, so I'm curious how the rest of the series shakes out. Should be a good one tomorrow.
The recap
Cleveland walked it off in extras, edging Detroit 4-3 in ten to send everybody home happy at Progressive Field. This one had bullpen fingerprints all over it, both pens trading zeros deep into the night until the Guardians finally pushed across the winner in the tenth.
Nobody left the yard in a hurry, but the heart of Cleveland's order came through when it counted with the free runner on second. Getaway day, extra innings, one-run ball, and the home team steals it.
