Detroit TigersvsSeattle Mariners
DET 2/SEA 4
Things to say
The Mariners beat the Tigers 4-2 at T-Mobile Park.
01
opener
Mariners took it 4-2. Classic T-Mobile Park game, ball just does not carry there at night. Detroit had chances but couldn't cash 'em in.
02
key player
Seattle's starter was the story. Got into his stuff early, worked the corners, and kept the heart of that Tigers order off balance all night.
03
hot take
Detroit's manager went to the pen too early, full stop. You've got a guy cruising and you yank him? That's how a 2-run game gets away from you.
04
deep cut
Nobody's talking about it but the M's won that game on defense. Couple plays up the middle that don't show up in the box score.
05
exit
Getaway day tomorrow, so we'll see who they run out there. Anyway, long series ahead for both these clubs.
The recap
Mariners took care of business at home, knocking off the Tigers 4-2 in a tidy little ballgame at T-Mobile Park. Seattle's pitching kept Detroit's bats quiet all night, and four runs was plenty of cushion once the bullpen locked it down late.
Both these clubs are scrapping around .500 and going nowhere fast, but the M's needed this one and grabbed it. Getaway-day baseball, low drama, Seattle banks the W.
