Detroit TigersvsKansas City Royals
DET 1/KC 3
Things to say
The Royals beat the Tigers 3-1 at Kauffman Stadium.
01
opener
Royals took it 3-1 at the K. Real pitchers' duel, nobody was squaring anything up. Kind of game that's over in two and a half hours.
02
key player
Whoever KC ran out there was dealing. Kept the Tigers off balance all night and gave the pen a clean handoff.
03
hot take
One run on the road ain't gonna cut it. Detroit's bats have gone quiet at the worst time.
04
deep cut
Three runs and it felt like plenty. That tells you the Tigers never got the heart of the order going.
05
exit
We'll see if the Tigers bounce back tomorrow, they can't let a getaway day slip like that.
The recap
Royals took this one 3-1 at Kauffman, a tidy little win that stays close to the vest the whole way. Kansas City's arms did the heavy lifting, keeping Detroit's bats quiet and holding the Tigers to a single run all night.
Detroit never really got into anything at the plate, and the one run they scratched across was too little to matter. Nice getaway-day grind for the Royals, who lean on the pitching to sneak past a Tigers club that just couldn't string anything together.
