Minnesota TwinsvsSan Diego Padres
MIN 2/SD 6
Things to say
The Padres beat the Twins 6-2 at Petco Park.
01
opener
Padres handled Minnesota 6-2 at Petco. Never really felt close after they got the bats going. Twins just couldn't string anything together on a getaway day.
02
key player
The heart of that Padres order did the damage — four extra runs of cushion and San Diego never looked back.
03
hot take
Two runs for the Twins? That offense is going nowhere until somebody in the middle of the lineup wakes up.
04
deep cut
Padres pen barely got tested — the starter went deep enough that San Diego never had to gamble early with a lead like that.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Twins can steal one before they leave San Diego.
The recap
Padres handled business at Petco and never really let this one get away, riding a steady starting effort and a lineup that kept the pressure on to a 6-2 win over the Twins. San Diego did its damage early and let the bullpen close the door, while Minnesota's bats stayed quiet against a guy who clearly got into his stuff.
The Twins scratched across a couple but couldn't string anything together with the heart of the order coming up short in the big spots. Getaway-day baseball for the Padres, and they leave feeling good sitting at 69-60 with the Twins now under .500.
