UCLA BruinsvsCalifornia Golden Bears

UCLA 45/CAL 24

ESPNCalifornia Memorial Stadium
Things to say

UCLA beat Cal 45-24 on the road at Memorial Stadium.

01
opener
UCLA just went into Berkeley and ran all over Cal, 45-24. It was tied 24-24 in the second half and then the Bruins scored the last three touchdowns. Cal couldn't stop the run when it mattered.
02
key player
Wayne Knight was the story, not the quarterback. Three rushing touchdowns off the bench. Iamaleava barely had to throw it, 184 yards and a pick, and they still cruised.
03
hot take
Cal's defense is going to be a problem all year. You can't give up two 30-plus-yard TD runs and 200-plus on the ground at home and expect to win anything.
04
deep cut
Anthony Woods quietly had 118 yards on eight carries, including a 53-yard house call to ice it. UCLA basically ran two backs at them and neither one got touched.
05
exit
Cal's 0-1 and it doesn't get easier. We'll see if that defense shows up next week or if this is just who they are.
The recap

UCLA rode the ground game to a 45-24 romp at Cal, and Wayne Knight was the wrecking ball with three rushing touchdowns. The Bears clawed all the way back to tie it 24-24, but that's where the wheels came off — UCLA ripped off 21 unanswered to slam the door.

Anthony Woods put the exclamation point on it with a 53-yard scamper, finishing with 118 yards and two scores of his own. Sagapolutele moved the ball for Cal but two picks and zero answers in the second half sank them.
