UL Monroe WarhawksvsMississippi State Bulldogs
ULM 13/MSST 62
Things to say
Mississippi State blew out UL Monroe 62-13 at Davis Wade Stadium.
01
opener
Yeah, that one got ugly fast. State just hung 62 on them. It was over by halftime, honestly.
02
key player
Kamario Taylor was surgical. 354 yards and four touchdowns on 22 of 34. Dude barely broke a sweat.
03
hot take
Beating up on a Sun Belt team means nothing. Ask me again when they see somebody in the SEC.
04
deep cut
J.J. Hill only got seven carries and still went for 118 and two scores. One of them a 57-yard house call. Imagine if they'd actually fed him.
05
exit
Anyway, the real test is the conference slate. Cupcake's over, let's see what they've actually got.
The recap
Mississippi State opened its season by hanging 62 on UL Monroe, and it was a mismatch from the jump. Kamario Taylor carved the Warhawks up for 354 yards and four scores through the air, hitting Marquis Johnson on a 70-yard bomb that blew the doors off, while J.J.
Hill ripped off 118 on the ground with two touchdowns of his own, one a 57-yard sprint. ULM's only real answer was a 40-yard strike from Austin Carlisle, but they never threatened to keep pace.
Smashmouth on one side, a track meet on the other, and the Bulldogs covered any number you want to throw at it.
