Western Kentucky HilltoppersvsNevada Wolf Pack

WKU 14/NEV 49

CBSSNMackay Stadium
Things to say

Nevada throttled Western Kentucky 49-14 at Mackay Stadium to open the season.

01
opener
Nevada took WKU behind the woodshed, 49-14. It was over by halftime. They just kept scoring on every drive.
02
key player
Dominic Kelley was the whole show — 152 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Nearly 14 a pop, that's not running, that's tracking.
03
hot take
Carter Jones threw a pick and still had a picture-perfect night. When your back is going for 150, the QB can just play pitch and catch.
04
deep cut
Donnie Cheers doesn't even lead a category and he scored two different ways — a 20-yard run and a 32-yard catch. That's the guy nobody's talking about.
05
exit
WKU's got a long flight home to think about that one. Curious to see if Nevada's for real or if this was just a soft opener.
The recap

Nevada absolutely smashmouthed Western Kentucky at Mackay Stadium, running away 49-14 in a game that was over by halftime. Dominic Kelley ripped off 152 yards and two scores on the ground while Carter Jones threw a couple touchdowns of his own, and the ground game just kept churning behind the line of scrimmage.

The turning point was really the whole first half — Nevada rattled off 28 straight after WKU's early lead and never looked back. Ajay Allen's 102 rushing yards and two scores for the Hilltoppers were nice, but the second one came in garbage time when this thing was long decided.
