Chicago White SoxvsChicago Cubs
CHW 5/CHC 7
Things to say
The Cubs walked off the White Sox 7-5 in 10 innings at Wrigley in the Crosstown Classic.
01
opener
Cubs took the crosstown one 7-5, but they had to grind for it. Thing went ten innings. Wrigley was rocking by the end.
02
key player
The heart of the Cubs order carried them late. Kept fouling off tough pitches and finally got the runners home in extras.
03
hot take
Honestly the Sox gave that one away. The manager went to the pen too early and it bit him.
04
deep cut
Notice it was a getaway day and both bullpens were gassed. Whoever blinked first in the tenth was gonna lose it.
05
exit
Anyway, Cubs are 73-53 now, rolling. Curious if they keep it up in the next series.
The recap
Crosstown scrap at Wrigley went the distance, with the Cubs walking it off — well, winning it in the 10th — 7-5 over the White Sox. Neither bullpen could slam the door in regulation, so this thing spilled into free baseball tied at five.
The Cubs finally broke through with a two-spot in the bottom of the 10th to send everybody home happy on the North Side. That's a big one for a club sitting at 73-53 and running away with it, while the Sox drop a heartbreaker they had within reach.
