New York YankeesvsLos Angeles Angels
NYY 1/LAA 10
Things to say
The Angels blew out the Yankees 10-1 at Angel Stadium.
01
opener
Man, the Angels just took the Yankees to the woodshed. Ten to one, wasn't even close. New York looked like they wanted to skip town on a getaway day.
02
key player
Whoever the Angels ran out on the mound got into his stuff early. Yankees couldn't touch him, one run all night. That's a WHIP you frame.
03
hot take
I don't care about the standings, a 78-60 club has no business getting run like that. Somebody in that Yankees clubhouse gave up early.
04
deep cut
The Angels are 53-85 and nobody's watching, but the bottom of their order did the damage. Heart of the lineup barely had to lift a finger.
05
exit
Anyway, Yankees still own the division. Curious if they bounce back tomorrow or if this thing snowballs.
The recap
The Angels absolutely mugged the Yankees in this one, hanging 10 on New York while the bullpen barely had to sweat in a 10-1 laugher. This was over early — LAA got into their stuff at the plate and never let up, turning a September getaway-day matchup into a full-on beatdown of a first-place club.
New York's bats went missing, mustering a single run against an Angels squad that's been out of the race for a while now. When a 53-85 team leaves the yard on you like this, that's the kind of loss that lingers on the flight home.
