New York YankeesvsSan Diego Padres
NYY 2/SD 3
Things to say
The Padres walked it off 3-2 over the Yankees in 10 innings at Petco Park.
01
opener
Padres took it 3-2 in extras. Tight one all night, then San Diego walked it off in the 10th. Classic Petco grind.
02
key player
The San Diego pen was the story — kept it a one-run game and slammed the door when the Yankees had the heart of the order up.
03
hot take
Yankees are 80-61 and still can't buy a clutch hit on the road. That's a lineup problem, not a slump.
04
deep cut
Free baseball at Petco is basically a trap game for visitors — that yard plays huge, and it swallowed New York's bats late.
05
exit
Anyway, extra-innings loss stings — let's see if the Yanks bounce back tomorrow before this series gets away from them.
The recap
Padres and Yankees played a nail-biter at Petco that needed extras to settle, San Diego walking it off 3-2 in the bottom of the tenth. Both starters went deep and kept the heart of the order quiet, so this thing was a coin flip into the late innings.
The bullpen held serve on both sides until New York's pen finally blinked, and the Padres pushed across the winning run to steal it at home. Gritty win for San Diego, tough one for the Yankees to swallow on the road.
