AthleticsvsCincinnati Reds
ATH 5/CIN 6
Things to say
The Cincinnati Reds edged the Athletics 6-5 at Great American Ball Park.
01
opener
Reds took it 6-5, one of those games that comes down to the last at-bat. Great American plays small so nobody felt safe with a one-run lead. Came right down to the wire.
02
key player
Cincinnati's bats did the damage in that park — six runs in a bandbox like that, somebody in the heart of the order left the yard. That was the difference.
03
hot take
Honestly the A's had this one and gave it back. You let a road team hang around at Great American, they'll make you pay every time.
04
deep cut
One-run game where the bullpen decides it — I'd bet the manager went to the pen an inning too early and it nearly cost them. Reds hung on anyway.
05
exit
Anyway, Reds are scratching back toward .500 — see how they hold up the rest of the series.
The recap
Cincinnati squeaked out a 6-5 nail-biter over the Athletics on a getaway-day matinee at Great American, and one run was all that separated these two by the final out. This was a slugfest early before both bullpens tried to slam the door — eleven runs on the board tells you neither starter got deep into his stuff.
The Reds' bats did just enough to stay in front, cashing in when it counted and hanging on late. At 56-58 they claw a little closer to even, while the A's drop another one-run heartbreaker to fall to 45-70.
