EPL The marquee game today is Tottenham Hotspur hosting Coventry City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a lopsided matchup on paper with Tottenham heavy favorites at minus-200 odds. Tottenham will be hunting their first clean sheet in a while after a shaky run, while Coventry City will look to spring an upset with a quick counter or a well-timed through ball. Don't expect a nil-nil snoozer, but if Tottenham's defense holds up, this one could be decided by a single early goal that holds up all the way to the final whistle.
MLB The marquee action is Tampa Bay at Cleveland, with the Rays up 3-1 in the top of the seventh and looking to tighten their series lead over the Guardians. The bullpen matchups here matter plenty, since whichever manager goes to the pen first could decide this one, and Cleveland needs its relievers to stop the bleeding after the starter got into some trouble early. With a getaway day up next, these two head to Tropicana Field for the rematch, so a Rays win tonight would put real pressure on Cleveland to answer right back.
MLS The marquee game tonight is Columbus Crew visiting FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium, and with 84 minutes gone Columbus has found the net twice while Cincinnati is still searching for a way to answer. FC Cincinnati's hopes of salvaging anything here are fading fast as stoppage time looms, with a clean sheet for Columbus's defense all but locked in. This Ohio rivalry always has an edge to it, and a 2-0 scoreline this late makes it a tough one for the home crowd to swallow.
NFL The marquee matchup tonight is the Buffalo Bills clawing out a 23-16 lead over the Las Vegas Raiders with under nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, a good measuring-stick win for a Bills team trying to validate its 4-1 start. Keep an eye on Arrowhead too, where the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs are oddly stuck at just 19 points against the winless Los Angeles Chargers, suggesting the Chiefs couldn't move the ball consistently even if the final score still favors them. Later tonight the Dallas Cowboys visit the Green Bay Packers as 1.5-point road favorites with the total sitting at 53.5, so if both offenses find the end zone in the red zone instead of settling for field goals, this one could easily go over.
NHL The marquee matchup is the Carolina Hurricanes visiting the Calgary Flames, with Carolina's hot 7-1-1 start facing a Calgary club still searching for its footing at 1-6-0, so look for the Hurricanes to lean on the power play and try to pepper the net early. Also keep an eye on Colorado Avalanche at Philadelphia Flyers, where the Avalanche's depth could pull away if Philadelphia's penalty kill slips in the slot. Right now Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild are tied 1-1 after one period, so a shorthanded goal or a stick save in the crease late could decide that one before the night is through.
WNBA The marquee matchup on the slate is Atlanta Dream at Golden State Valkyries, with the expansion Valkyries favored by two and a half points behind a 32-12 record that's turned Chase Center into a tough building. Atlanta comes in at 30-14 and has shown they can score with anybody, so expect buckets in the paint and a few splash threes on both sides. With playoff positioning on the line, look for this one to come down to who has ice in their veins in crunch time.
