Toronto Blue JaysvsSan Diego Padres
TOR 7/SD 8
Things to say
The Padres edged the Blue Jays 8-7 at Petco Park to snap a tight one.
01
opener
Padres took it 8-7, absolute nail-biter. One of those games where nobody's pitching could hold a lead. Came right down to the last at-bat.
02
key player
San Diego's heart of the order was the difference — you don't put up eight runs without the middle guys leaving the yard a couple times. That's who carried it.
03
hot take
Both managers went to the pen way too early. You've got a lead, let your starter breathe. That's how a comfortable night turns into a coin flip.
04
deep cut
Petco plays huge, so scoring 15 combined runs there is nuts — that ballpark usually swallows offense. Tells you how flat the arms were.
05
exit
Padres are scrapping to get back to .500, so this one mattered. Curious if they can carry it into the next one.
The recap
Padres and Blue Jays traded haymakers all night at Petco, and San Diego finally squeaked one out 8-7 to salvage a getaway day. Toronto put up seven and had the game right there, but the bullpen couldn't slam the door and let the heart of the Padres order do damage late.
This one had that back-and-forth feel where nobody's arm was safe and every lead felt temporary. San Diego takes it by a run and heads home breathing a little easier.
