Things to say
The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-7 in 10 innings at Chase Field.
01
opener
D-backs walked it off, 8-7 in extras. Cards had it and let it slip late. Chase Field crowd went nuts.
02
key player
Arizona's bats carried it — eight runs, and the heart of the order kept the line moving all night.
03
hot take
St. Louis manager went to the pen too early. You could feel that lead evaporating.
04
deep cut
Both clubs sitting basically dead even, right around .500 — this was a coin-flip game the whole way.
05
exit
Anyway, tight one. Curious if the Cards bounce back on the getaway day tomorrow.
The recap
Arizona and St. Louis traded punches all night and needed extra innings to settle it, with the Diamondbacks walking it off 8-7 in the tenth at Chase Field.
Neither bullpen could slam the door — this thing was 7-7 late and felt like whoever blinked last would lose it. Arizona pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the tenth to steal one on a getaway day and pull even at 51-48.
Tough swallow for St. Louis, who had this within reach and let it slip in the final frame.
