CF MontréalvsColumbus Crew
MTL 2/CLB 1
Things to say
CF Montréal beat Columbus Crew 2-1 on the road at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field.
01
opener
Montréal went into Columbus and nicked it 2-1. Crew threw everything at them late but couldn't find the equalizer. Big three points on the road.
02
key player
Matthew Longstaff was all over it for Montréal, four shots and running the show in midfield. Guy earned his money tonight.
03
hot take
Schulte made five saves and still lost. That's not a keeper problem, that's a Columbus defense problem.
04
deep cut
Brayan Vera had 21 defensive interventions. Twenty-one. Dude was a one-man wall in front of the box all night.
05
exit
Both sitting at 5-5-10, so this one actually matters for the table. Curious to see who they draw next.
The recap
Montréal walked into Columbus and nicked all three points, edging a scrappy one 2-1 on the road. Columbus threw everything forward and made Thomas Gillier work for it, but Patrick Schulte was picking the ball out of his own net five times over as the Crew's finishing let them down.
Matthew Longstaff was the livewire for Montréal, peppering four shots and dragging his side up the pitch. Both clubs sit level at 5-5-10, but only one of them left with the win.
