Los Angeles ChargersvsHouston Texans
LAC 27/HOU 7
Things to say
The Chargers beat the Texans 27-7 at NRG Stadium.
01
opener
Chargers rolled, 27-7. Texans got a touchdown early and then just couldn't move the ball. Wasn't really close after halftime.
02
key player
Amar Johnson was the guy — two rushing scores plus a 68-yard catch. He carried that whole offense.
03
hot take
Trey Lance threw a pick and still looked better than anyone Houston put out there. That should worry the Texans.
04
deep cut
Watch the two-point call after Johnson's second score — they went for it up 20-7 and got it on a QB run. Aggressive.
05
exit
Anyway, Houston's got a lot to clean up before Week 1. Curious to see if Mills hangs onto that job.
The recap
The Chargers rolled into NRG and left with a 27-7 beatdown, flipping an early 7-3 deficit into a 24-point run that Houston never had an answer for. Amar Johnson was the whole show, punching in two rushing touchdowns and adding 68 yards through the air to carry the offense by himself.
The Texans got their only points on a Davis Mills strike to Jared Wayne, then just couldn't move the ball the rest of the way. Once LA reeled off that second-quarter two-point conversion to go up 21-7, this one was academic.
