Chicago CubsvsColorado Rockies
CHC 3/COL 7
Things to say
Rockies beat the Cubs 7-3 at Coors Field.
01
opener
Rockies took it 7-3 over the Cubs at Coors. Colorado's been a doormat all year but they got into Chicago's stuff early. Cubs never really pushed back.
02
key player
Nobody on the Cubs gave their starter any run support — that lineup's been ice cold on the road all month.
03
hot take
Cubs are 34-33 and starting to look real average. That rotation isn't getting them to October.
04
deep cut
Coors plays like a different sport at altitude — the ball just carries. Visiting bullpens hate that flight in.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Cubs can steady the ship next series before the wheels really come off.
The recap
Rockies took down the Cubs 7-3 at Coors, which counts as a get-well game for a 25-42 club that doesn't get many of these. Chicago's starter never really got into his stuff at altitude, and once Colorado's bats found a rhythm in the thin air the heart of the order did the damage.
The Cubs bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, and a four-run cushion at Coors is basically a vault. Cubs drop back to .500 and head out on what felt like a getaway day they'd rather forget.
