EnglandvsMexico
ENG 3/MEX 2
Things to say
England beat Mexico 3-2 at Estadio Banorte to take the tie.
01
opener
Mad game, honestly. England nicked it 3-2 in Mexico. Went end to end but England just had that bit more up top.
02
key player
Bellingham ran the show again. Only three shots but he was everywhere in the middle, dictating everything.
03
hot take
Say what you want, but Pickford's the reason they held on. Three saves and one of them was world class.
04
deep cut
Guéhi was quietly brilliant at the back. Ten defensive interventions, kept sticking a leg in when Mexico were flying.
05
exit
Jiménez had eight shots and nothing to show for it, brutal. Anyway, let's see if they can back it up next round.
The recap
England went into a raucous Estadio Banorte and nicked it 3-2, riding out one of those nervy nights where the scoreline flattered nobody. Mexico threw everything forward, Raúl Jiménez alone rattling off eight shots, but Jordan Pickford stood tall in the England goal when it mattered.
Jude Bellingham was the difference in midfield, driving the visitors up the pitch every time Mexico threatened to level. Great watching, but England will know they rode their luck to come away with all three points.
