The morning line

MLB The marquee game tonight is the San Diego Padres visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, and with the Dodgers sitting at 59-31 and installed as heavy -231 favorites, the Padres bullpen is going to need to be sharp if they want any shot at keeping the heart of that Los Angeles order off the bases. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees tomorrow night in a tight divisional matchup — the Rays have been playing above expectations at 52-35 and the line opened with Tampa favored, which tells you Vegas thinks their rotation has gotten into some good stuff lately. Keep an eye on the Milwaukee Brewers at St. Louis Cardinals as well, since the Brewers are the hottest team in this slate at 54-33 and a getaway day game like that can go sideways fast if a manager goes to the pen too early in the late innings.

WNBA The marquee game tonight is Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces on ESPN — two of the better teams in the league going at it, with the Aces sitting at 15-5 and only laying 2.5, so Vegas is expecting a real fight from an Indiana squad that's been getting buckets all season. Over in the nightcap, Minnesota Lynx host the Connecticut Sun in what looks like a clinic waiting to happen — the Lynx are 15-5 themselves and spotting 14.5 points to a Sun team that's taken the L in 16 of 20 games. If you're watching one, make it Fever-Aces: both rosters can splash it from deep and play physical in the paint, and a two-possession game could come down to someone with ice in her veins hitting a dagger late.

World Cup The headline fixture is Spain against Portugal at AT&T Stadium — an Iberian derby on the World Cup stage, and with Spain listed at barely -105, the bookmakers see virtually nothing between them. England travel to Estadio Banorte earlier in the day as underdogs against Mexico on home soil, so a clean sheet and a scrappy result would feel like a brilliant achievement in itself. The United States close out the slate hosting Belgium at Lumen Field, where the home side come in as slight favorites but will need to stay tight at the back — Belgium are perfectly capable of making it an absolute paddling if given room to play through balls in behind.
