HaitivsMorocco
HAI 2/MAR 4
Things to say
Morocco beat Haiti 4-2 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to all but punch their ticket out of the group.
01
opener
Morocco handled Haiti 4-2, but it wasn't the cakewalk the scoreline says. Haiti actually grabbed two goals and made it spicy. Morocco just had too much going forward.
02
key player
Hakimi was everywhere — five shots, bombing up that right flank all night. The man basically plays winger and right-back at the same time, it's ridiculous.
03
hot take
Honestly Morocco's defending was a bit shambolic. You don't want to be shipping two to Haiti and acting like 4-2 is a job well done.
04
deep cut
Look at Johny Placide in the Haiti goal — eight saves. Without him in net that's a proper paddling, easily five or six.
05
exit
Anyway, Morocco look set for the knockouts now. Be interesting to see who they draw next round.
The recap
Morocco put four past Haiti to take this one 4-2, and it was the kind of result that flattered nobody on the back end. Hakimi was a menace down the right all night, leading the line with five shots and bombing forward whenever he fancied it.
Credit Haiti's keeper Johny Placide, who made eight saves to keep the scoreline from turning into a proper paddling. Two goals back is something for the Haitians to hang onto, but Morocco were simply the better side and never really looked troubled.
