Jacksonville JaguarsvsNew Orleans Saints
JAX 24/NO 20
Things to say
The Jaguars beat the Saints 24-20 at the Superdome.
01
opener
Jags stole one in New Orleans, 24-20. Saints were up 20-6 and just sat on it. Jacksonville rattled off 18 straight in the second half and took the lead late.
02
key player
J'Mari Taylor was the whole offense — 22 carries, 78 yards, and the 2-yard plunge that won it. Guy earned a real look.
03
hot take
Zach Wilson looked fine early but the Saints couldn't move the ball when it mattered. You can't go conservative with a two-score lead and expect to hold it.
04
deep cut
Little detail — Carter Bradley hit Hunter Long for a score, then they went for two and got it. That point swing is why it was a one-score game instead of a field goal to tie.
05
exit
Preseason, so who knows, but that comeback tells you something. Anyway, curious to see if Taylor keeps those reps next week.
The recap
Jacksonville stared down a 20-6 hole and just kept pounding it on the ground until New Orleans cracked. J'Mari Taylor was the workhorse all night, 22 carries and 78 yards of smashmouth grinding, and he punched in the 2-yard go-ahead score with under five minutes to play.
The Saints couldn't answer, and a Zach Wilson-led offense that stalled after the break watched a two-score lead slip into a 24-20 loss. Taylor carried them home, plain and simple.
