Miami MarlinsvsCincinnati Reds
MIA 8/CIN 4
Things to say
The Miami Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 at Great American Ball Park.
01
opener
Marlins took it 8-4 in Cincy. Miami's bats woke up early and never really let up. Reds just couldn't string enough together to answer.
02
key player
The Marlins' heart of the order carried it — Miami put up eight and most of it came through the middle of the lineup. That's the difference on a getaway day.
03
hot take
Reds pitching is the problem, not the offense. Four runs should win you more nights than it does with that bullpen.
04
deep cut
Watch how early Cincinnati went to the pen — once the starter got touched up, the middle innings got away from them fast. Great American plays small too, ball leaves the yard in a hurry.
05
exit
Marlins are over .500 and scrappy this year. Curious if they can keep it rolling next series — anyway, back to it.
The recap
Miami went into Great American Ball Park and put up eight, taking this one 8-4 behind an offense that kept the line moving all afternoon. The heart of the Marlins order did the damage, stacking runs while Cincinnati's arms couldn't get anybody out at the right time.
The Reds hung around early, but once Miami blew it open the bullpen couldn't slam the door and this getaway day got out of hand fast. Marlins climb back over .500 at 63-61; Cincinnati drops to 59-63 and can't stop the bleeding at home.
