Miami MarlinsvsCincinnati Reds
MIA 7/CIN 1
Things to say
The Miami Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 at Great American Ball Park.
01
opener
Marlins took it 7-1 in Cincy. Never really close after they broke it open. Reds bats just never showed up.
02
key player
Whoever Miami ran out there was locked in — Reds managed exactly one run all day, so somebody on that staff was into his stuff.
03
hot take
Reds are hovering under .500 for a reason. One run at home on a getaway-type day is just not a playoff team.
04
deep cut
Marlins are actually over .500 now at 64-61 — quietly playing better ball than the Reds all season and nobody's talking about it.
05
exit
We'll see if Cincy's bats wake up next series, but right now the heart of that order is ice cold.
The recap
Marlins rolled into Great American and left with a 7-1 laugher, and honestly it never felt close after the middle innings. Miami's bats got into the Reds staff early and often, stacking runs while their guy on the mound cruised and kept Cincinnati's heart of the order quiet all afternoon.
The lone Reds run was a footnote in a game where the pitching set the tone and the offense piled on late. Getaway day, road win, no drama, exactly the kind of tidy result that pushes Miami over .500.
