Washington NationalsvsNew York Mets
WSH 3/NYM 4
Things to say
The Mets beat the Nationals 4-3 at Citi Field.
01
opener
Mets grabbed it 4-3, one-run game the whole way. Nothing pretty, but they found a way at home. Those are the ones that keep you in the race.
02
key player
Honestly the story was the Mets bats coming through in a tight one. Heart of the order did just enough to scratch across four. That's the difference in a one-run ballgame.
03
hot take
Nats hung tough for a sub-.500 club, but you can't leave the tying run out there and expect to win in Queens.
04
deep cut
The real swing was the bullpen locking down that one-run lead late. Nobody flinched. That's how you close out a getaway day.
05
exit
Anyway, let's see if the Mets can carry it into the next one and actually take the series.
The recap
Tight one at Citi Field, and the Mets found a way to squeak past the Nats 4-3 in a game that stayed close all afternoon. Neither side could pull away, so it came down to the late innings where every at-bat in the heart of the order felt loaded.
New York got the bullpen to slam the door and protect that one-run cushion when it mattered most. Washington had chances but couldn't cash them in, and they head home on the wrong end of a nail-biter.
