Baltimore OriolesvsAthletics
BAL 8/ATH 5
Things to say
The Baltimore Orioles beat the Athletics 8-5 in Sacramento.
01
opener
Orioles took it 8 to 5 out at Sutter Health Park. Baltimore's bats just kept coming, and the A's never really answered. Getaway-day baseball, but the O's wanted it more.
02
key player
The heart of the Baltimore order was the whole story — they left the yard early and the A's staff never got into their stuff.
03
hot take
Eight runs and they still made it look shaky. That Baltimore bullpen is holding this whole thing together with tape.
04
deep cut
The A's are 53-84 and playing in a minor-league park in Sacramento. Five runs against a contender there is honestly not nothing.
05
exit
O's are right at .500 and clawing for a wild card — this is the stretch where every one of these matters. We'll see if they keep it rolling.
The recap
Baltimore went into Sacramento and handled its business, tagging the Athletics 8-5 on a getaway day. The Orioles' bats did the heavy lifting, stringing together enough traffic on the bases to keep the pressure on and pulling away late once the A's had to dig into the back of the pen.
Athletics kept it interesting with a five-spot, but they were chasing all afternoon and never got the heart of the order to come through when it mattered. Baltimore climbs back to a game under .500 and heads home feeling good about the road trip.
