Philadelphia PhilliesvsLos Angeles Angels
PHI 5/LAA 2
Things to say
The Phillies beat the Angels 5-2 at Angel Stadium.
01
opener
Phillies took it 5-2 out in Anaheim. Never really felt close after they jumped on the Angels early. Philly's just the better ballclub right now.
02
key player
The heart of Philly's order did the damage — a couple of those runs came right through the three-four hole. When the Phillies' bats are on, they leave the yard on you.
03
hot take
Honestly the Angels are just playing out the string at this point. Fifty-two and eighty-five, they're not scaring anybody.
04
deep cut
Phillies bullpen slammed the door too — you love seeing a lead like that not get shaky in the late innings. That's the sign of a contender in August.
05
exit
Anyway, Philly's rolling at 77-60 — I'm way more curious what they do come October. We'll see.
The recap
Phillies rolled into Anaheim and handled business, tagging the Angels 5-2 to keep the good times going for a club that's now 17 games over .500. The bats did their damage early and the pitching staff choked off any rally, holding a fading Angels lineup to just two runs.
Los Angeles, buried at 52-85, just couldn't string enough together against Philly's arms. Getaway day, quick work, and the Phillies get out of town with the W.
