Philadelphia PhilliesvsMinnesota Twins
PHI 7/MIN 5
Things to say
The Phillies beat the Twins 7-5 on the road at Target Field.
01
opener
Phillies took it 7-5 up in Minnesota. Back-and-forth for a while, but the heart of the order came through late. Twins hung around but couldn't get the big hit.
02
key player
Philly's bats carried it, a couple guys in the middle of the lineup left the yard and drove in most of the runs. That's the story of the game.
03
hot take
Twins manager went to the pen too early and it cost him. You leave your starter in there, that's a different ballgame.
04
deep cut
This was a getaway day too, so a road win in the finale is the kind you take and run. Bullpen slammed the door in the ninth.
05
exit
Anyway, Phillies are rolling at 67-58 now. Curious to see if they keep it up on the next series.
The recap
Phillies grabbed a getaway-day win in Minnesota, holding on 7-5 at Target Field to keep their October push humming. The bats did the heavy lifting, putting up seven on the road and giving the arms enough cushion to weather a Twins club that wouldn't go quietly.
Minnesota clawed back to make it a two-run game late, but the visitors slammed the door and left with the series feeling in hand. At 67-58, Philly keeps stacking the kind of quiet road wins that matter come September.
