Pittsburgh PiratesvsSt. Louis Cardinals
PIT 5/STL 4
Things to say
The Pirates beat the Cardinals 5-4 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Pirates took it 5-4 in St. Louis. Tight one all night, came down to the last couple innings. Pittsburgh just found a way.
02
key player
Nobody in that Pirates lineup blew the doors off, but the top of the order kept turning it over and putting guys on. That's how you scratch out five.
03
hot take
Cardinals are hanging around .500 and honestly they look like a team that's already checked out. Losing a one-run getaway game like that at home tells you plenty.
04
deep cut
Both these clubs are basically playing out the string, under .500, but Pittsburgh's the one taking the series and swiping games on the road. Says something.
05
exit
Anyway, one-run ballgame, I'll take it. Curious who they run out there next time these two square off.
The recap
Pittsburgh went into Busch and stole a getaway-day nail-biter, 5-4, hanging a loss on the Cardinals in a game they could taste. It was a one-run grind the whole way, the kind where every trip to the bullpen felt like a coin flip.
St. Louis had chances to leave the yard and put it away but couldn't cash in the heart of the order when it mattered.
The Pirates scratched across just enough and made the last out stick to walk away with it.
