Yanks took it 8-5. Pittsburgh hung around for a while, then the Bronx bats woke up. Once the heart of the order got going, it was over.

The middle of that Yankee lineup did the damage. One of them left the yard and drove in a chunk of those eight runs. When they square it up like that, forget it.

Honestly the Pirates gave that one away. Their manager went to the pen too early and it bit him.

Pittsburgh's starter actually looked sharp early, got into his stuff for a few innings. It was the bullpen that couldn't hold it.

The Yankees jumped on Pittsburgh at home and never really let go, riding an 8-5 win at the Stadium to move to 56-44. The bats did the heavy lifting here, putting up enough runs that even a shaky middle-inning stretch couldn't let the Pirates back in it.
Pittsburgh hung around and made it a game, but every time they closed the gap the heart of the Yankee order answered right back. Solid, unglamorous ballgame on a Sunday, and the home crowd went home happy.
