The morning line

MLB The marquee game tonight is the Los Angeles Dodgers — best record in baseball at 63-37 — heading into Citizens Bank Park to face the Philadelphia Phillies on ESPN, where the books have Philly as home favorites and the kind of deep lineups on both sides that make you nervous any time the manager goes to the pen too early. Down in Atlanta, the Braves (57-41) host the San Diego Padres with an over/under of 9.5, which tells you the books are expecting the heart of the order to do some damage and at least a couple of balls to leave the yard at Truist Park. The Milwaukee Brewers (62-37) hosting the struggling New York Mets (42-58) at American Family Field rounds out the NL's best clubs in action tonight, and with a Mets lineup posting a record that ugly, they are going to need every base runner and every point of OBP they can scrounge just to keep it respectable against a Brewers staff that has been sharp all year.

WNBA The marquee game tonight is the New York Liberty rolling into College Park Center as four-and-a-half-point favorites despite the Dallas Wings sitting prettier in the standings at 17-8, so one of these squads is about to take a very ugly L with real playoff implications. Out west, the Minnesota Lynx have been an absolute clinic at 20-6 and they take that road show to Climate Pledge Arena against a Seattle Storm team that's 6-21 and has been getting eaten up all season — the only real question is whether the Storm can keep it close before the Lynx just start splashing from everywhere.
