Portland TimbersvsChicago Fire FC
POR 1/CHI 2
Things to say
Chicago Fire beat Portland Timbers 2-1 at Soldier Field.
01
opener
Fire got it done at home, 2-1 over Portland. Solid three points. They're right in the thick of it now at 10-2-6.
02
key player
Lewandowski led the line, three shots up top. Even at his age the guy just drags defenders around and opens it up for everyone else.
03
hot take
Honestly Portland shot themselves in the foot. They had the run of play stretches and couldn't finish. That one's on the front line, not the keeper.
04
deep cut
Watch Dje Tah in the middle for Chicago. Ten defensive interventions, absolute vacuum cleaner in front of the back line. Nobody talks about him.
05
exit
Anyway, Fire are cooking. Curious to see if they can keep it up on the road next week.
The recap
Chicago got the job done at Soldier Field, edging Portland 2-1 to keep their season humming along. Lewandowski was busy up top with a team-high three shots, and the Fire found enough to put two on the board and hold the lead.
Portland got one back to make it interesting, but Chris Brady and the back line slammed the door late. Solid three points at home for a side that's now 10-2-6 and firmly in the mix.
