Boston Red SoxvsPittsburgh Pirates
BOS 4/PIT 0
Things to say
The Red Sox beat the Pirates 4-0 at PNC Park to take the game.
01
opener
Sox took it 4-0 in Pittsburgh. Total shutout, Pirates never had anything going. Boston's pitching just smothered them.
02
key player
Whoever Boston ran out there was dealing all night. Four zeros on the board, WHIP had to be tiny with that command.
03
hot take
Getting blanked at home on a getaway day? That's a Pirates season in one line.
04
deep cut
Four runs was plenty because the bullpen never even got tested. Starter carried the load and PIT couldn't string two hits together.
05
exit
Sox are cooking at 66-57 now. Curious if they can keep it rolling into the next series.
The recap
Boston went into Pittsburgh and slammed the door, riding a shutout to a clean 4-0 win at PNC Park. The Sox starter got into his stuff early and never let the Pirates' heart of the order breathe, and the bullpen slammed it shut to keep the goose egg intact.
Four runs was plenty of cushion on a night when Pittsburgh's bats never showed up. Getaway day, quiet crowd, and the Sox quietly bank another one on the road.
