Boston Red SoxvsPittsburgh Pirates
BOS 3/PIT 8
Things to say
The Pirates beat the Red Sox 8-3 at PNC Park.
01
opener
Pirates took it 8-3 down at PNC. Boston never really got in it after the middle innings. Bats woke up for Pittsburgh and that was the ballgame.
02
key player
Whoever's hitting in the heart of that Pirates order earned their check today. Five runs of separation, and it wasn't cheap contact.
03
hot take
Boston's the team with the winning record and they still can't string a road series together. That lineup's overrated when the starter isn't dealing.
04
deep cut
Red Sox skipper went to the pen too early and it snowballed. Once the middle relief came in, PIT put the game away.
05
exit
Anyway, Boston's got the record so they'll bounce back. Curious who they run out there next game.
The recap
The Pirates jumped on Boston early and never looked back, cruising to an 8-3 win at PNC Park. Pittsburgh's bats did the heavy lifting, stacking crooked numbers while the Red Sox starter clearly didn't have his stuff and got knocked around before he could settle in.
Boston's three runs were too little, too late once the Bucs' lineup got rolling through the heart of the order. Getaway-day loss for the Sox, who still sit comfortably above .500, but this one belonged to the home team from the jump.
