Boston Red SoxvsTampa Bay Rays
BOS 3/TB 4
Things to say
Rays edged the Red Sox 4-3 at the Trop.
01
opener
Rays got past Boston 4-3 last night at the Trop. One-run game the whole way. Sox just couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
02
key player
Whoever Tampa ran out there in the heart of the order did the damage — Red Sox pitching kept nibbling and paid for it.
03
hot take
Boston's 27-38 and it shows. That bullpen is cooked and nobody wants to say it.
04
deep cut
Trop's been a house of horrors for the Sox for years. Something about that turf, the ball just dies in weird spots.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if they can split the series tonight — Boston needs a starter to go seven for once.
The recap
Rays edged the Red Sox 4-3 at the Trop on a getaway-day nailbiter that came down to the last out. Tampa's bats stayed quiet through the heart of the order for most of the night, but they scratched across just enough to flip it late and let the bullpen slam the door.
Boston had chances with runners aboard and couldn't cash in, which has been the story of their 27-38 slog. Rays are 39-25 now and quietly looking like the class of the AL East again.
