Kansas City RoyalsvsLos Angeles Angels
KC 3/LAA 0
Things to say
The Royals shut out the Angels 3-0 in Anaheim.
01
opener
Royals took it 3-0 out in Anaheim. Classic getaway-day snoozer that turned into a pitcher's duel. KC just kept the Angels off the board all night.
02
key player
Whoever KC ran out there was filthy — got into his stuff early and the heart of the order never touched him. That's the kind of start that saves a bullpen.
03
hot take
Angels getting shut out at home again tells you everything. That lineup is lost. Fifty wins and it feels generous.
04
deep cut
Three runs and a shutout means the pen barely had to work. KC's back end is quietly one of the better stories nobody's talking about.
05
exit
Anyway, both these clubs are playing out the string. I'm more curious what the contenders do down the stretch.
The recap
Royals grabbed a tidy 3-0 shutout on the road in Anaheim, and this one was all about the pitching. KC's staff kept the Angels' bats quiet all afternoon, stranding runners and never letting the heart of the order do any damage.
Three runs was plenty of cushion when the arms are dealing like that, and the bullpen slammed the door to lock down the goose egg. Getaway-day baseball, Royals take it and head out of town feeling good.
