Kansas City RoyalsvsCincinnati Reds
KC 9/CIN 2
Things to say
Kansas City beat Cincinnati 9-2 at Great American Ball Park.
01
opener
Royals went into Cincinnati and just took it to them, 9-2. Reds bats never showed up. Felt over by the fifth.
02
key player
Royals lineup did damage up and down the order — when KC scores nine on the road, you know the heart of the order was on base all night.
03
hot take
Reds are sitting at .500 and it flatters them. This team's bullpen is going to cost them a wild card spot.
04
deep cut
Royals are 23-37 and still went into a hitter's park and dropped nine. Tells you Cincinnati's starter never got into his stuff.
05
exit
Anyway — getaway day tomorrow, curious if KC can actually take the series.
The recap
Royals rolled into Great American and absolutely buried the Reds 9-2, and it wasn't really close after the middle innings. KC's bats finally woke up against a Cincinnati staff that just couldn't find the zone, and once the lineup turned over you could see the manager start eyeing the pen way too early.
Reds only scratched across two, which tells you everything about how their offense looked against the Royals' starter. Getaway day in Cincy and the home crowd was heading for the exits by the seventh.
