Tigers squeaked past the Royals 2-1 in a good old-fashioned pitcher's duel at Comerica. Runs were at a premium all night, with both bullpens slamming the door and nobody able to string much together against the heart of the order.
Detroit scratched across just enough to grab it and pull back within striking distance in the standings. Not a lot of fireworks, but the kind of tight, low-scoring grind that keeps the manager chewing his nails to the last out.
