SD 1/LAFC 0
Things to say
San Diego FC beat LAFC 1-0 on the road at BMO Stadium.
01
opener
San Diego went into BMO and nicked it 1-0. LAFC threw a ton at them and couldn't find the net. Classic away smash-and-grab.
02
key player
CJ dos Santos was the difference in the San Diego goal. Three saves and a clean sheet on the road, keeper stole them the win.
03
hot take
Son had four shots and nothing to show for it. You pay big money for that guy, he's got to bury one of those.
04
deep cut
Aníbal Godoy ran the whole thing for San Diego, 116 accurate passes. He barely gave the ball away all night.
05
exit
Anyway, San Diego are the surprise packet this year. Curious to see if they can back it up next week.
The recap
San Diego went into BMO Stadium and nicked a 1-0 win off LAFC, and honestly it's a proper statement from the newcomers. LAFC threw plenty at it — Son Heung-Min led the shots and Lloris barely had a save to make at the other end — but they just couldn't find the net.
CJ dos Santos was the difference in the San Diego goal, coming up with three saves to protect the clean sheet. Big scalp on the road, and LAFC will be kicking themselves after dominating the ball with nothing to show for it.
