San Diego FCvsPortland Timbers
SD 1/POR 3
Things to say
Portland Timbers beat San Diego FC 3-1 at Providence Park.
01
opener
Timbers took care of business at home, 3-1 over San Diego. Providence Park was rocking. San Diego pushed but never really threatened once Portland got the second.
02
key player
Kevin Kelsy was a handful up top, three shots and he made them count. That kid's turning into a real problem for defenders.
03
hot take
Honestly San Diego's expansion year has hit a wall. Six-six-eight is fool's gold, they're a soft team once you punch back.
04
deep cut
Watch the keeper, though. Pantemis made five saves, so it wasn't as comfortable as the scoreline says. And Kamal Miller had twenty defensive interventions, dude was everywhere.
05
exit
Anyway, Portland's climbing the West. Curious to see if they can keep it going on the road next week.
The recap
Portland took care of business at Providence Park, seeing off San Diego FC 3-1 for a comfortable home night. Kevin Kelsy led the line and kept the pressure on, while James Pantemis was busy in goal with five saves to keep the visitors at arm's length.
San Diego actually ran up the passing numbers, Jeppe Tverskov ticking off 116 completions, and Gabriel Pirani fired seven shots, but they had precious little to show for all that possession. A 3-1 result flatters nobody in blue and yellow, and the Timbers banked three big points.
