San Jose EarthquakesvsLA Galaxy
SJ 0/LA 1
Things to say
LA Galaxy edged San Jose 1-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
01
opener
California Clasico, and the Galaxy nicked it 1-nil. Scrappy game, not pretty. San Jose had the better record coming in and still couldn't find the net.
02
key player
JT Marcinkowski earned that clean sheet, four saves and never looked rattled. Quietly the best guy on the pitch.
03
hot take
San Jose are 10-3-7 and honestly play like they're afraid to score. All that possession, nothing to show for it.
04
deep cut
Angus Gunn made six saves on the losing end. Keeper outplays his counterpart and still walks off with nothing, brutal.
05
exit
Anyway, one goal decides a derby. Let's see if the Quakes wake up in the return leg.
The recap
Nothing separated these two for most of the night, but the Galaxy nicked it 1-0 and pinched all three points off a San Jose side that came in miles better on paper. The Quakes actually did enough to earn something, forcing Marcinkowski into four saves and running Angus Gunn ragged at the other end for a busy shift, but they just couldn't find the net when it mattered.
Clean sheet for LA, and honestly a smash-and-grab against a top-of-the-table outfit. The Earthquakes will be kicking themselves for leaving Dignity Health empty-handed.
