Seattle Sounders FCvsPhiladelphia Union
SEA 0/PHI 1
Things to say
Philadelphia Union beat Seattle Sounders 1-0 at Subaru Park.
01
opener
Union grinded out a 1-0 at home. Not pretty, but they took their chance and locked it down. Clean sheet, three points, job done.
02
key player
Andre Blake barely had to work, one save, but the kid Cavan Sullivan ran the show with five shots. That teenager is the real deal.
03
hot take
Seattle's the better team on paper and they got nothing. Four saves from their keeper says everything about how flat they were going forward.
04
deep cut
Neil Pierre had nine defensive interventions. Nobody talks about him but he snuffed out everything Seattle tried down the middle.
05
exit
Union's still buried in the standings though. Long way to go, we'll see if they can build on it next week.
The recap
Philadelphia edged Seattle 1-0 at Subaru Park, and honestly it was a bit of a smash-and-grab against a side sitting way above them in the table. Cavan Sullivan was the livewile, peppering five shots and dragging the Union forward all night.
Andre Blake barely broke a sweat for the clean sheet, needing just one save while Andy Thomas made four at the other end trying to keep Seattle in it. A grind of a result for a struggling Philly side, but three points is three points and Seattle will be kicking themselves for coming up empty.
