Toronto TempovsWashington Mystics
TOR 85/WSH 86
Things to say
Washington Mystics edged the Toronto Tempo 86-85 at CareFirst Arena.
01
opener
Mystics took it 86-85, one-point game right down to the wire. Tempo had every chance to steal it and just couldn't get the last bucket. Wild finish.
02
key player
Mabrey went off for 27 on the road and Toronto still took the L — that's a wasted clinic.
03
hot take
Lauren Betts with 18 is nice, but Washington won that game on the glass, not on offense.
04
deep cut
Shakira Austin pulled down 11 boards — Tempo got ate up in the paint all night.
05
exit
Anyway, Tempo at 7-6 is still the better team on paper. We'll see what they do next time out.
The recap
Mystics edged Toronto 86-85 in a one-possession nail-biter that came right down to the wire. Marina Mabrey went off for 27 and damn near stole it on the road, but Toronto couldn't get the dagger when they needed it.
Washington played it by committee — Lauren Betts dropped 18, Shakira Austin was a monster on the glass with 11 boards, and Georgia Amoore ran the show with 7 dimes. Tempo took the L despite the better record, and Mabrey's gonna be sick about this one on the flight home.
