Detroit TigersvsAthletics
DET 8/ATH 6
Things to say
The Detroit Tigers beat the Athletics 8-6 in Sacramento to snap out of their skid.
01
opener
Tigers took it 8-6 on a getaway day. Detroit's bats woke up early and the A's just couldn't claw all the way back. Sloppy game but Detroit had enough.
02
key player
The heart of the Tigers' order carried it. A couple of guys left the yard and the middle of that lineup put up the crooked number that decided it.
03
hot take
Honestly the A's bullpen lost this one. Manager went to the pen too early and it snowballed. Six runs and they're still leaving stuff over the plate.
04
deep cut
Detroit's starter didn't go seven but he battled into his stuff late. The real quiet key was Detroit's OBP up and down the card, kept the line moving.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if Detroit can keep the bats hot in the next one. Tough to trust the A's pen right now.
The recap
Tigers went into Sacramento and left with a slugfest, punching out an 8-6 win that had traffic on the bases all night. Detroit's bats did the heavy lifting, working the count and making the A's staff pay every time somebody got into his stuff and left one over the plate.
The A's kept clawing back into it, but the Tigers answered with the heart of the order coming through when it counted. Chalk this one up as a getaway-day grind where whoever blinked last in the bullpen was going to lose it, and Oakland blinked first.
