The morning line

MLB The marquee game tonight is the Los Angeles Dodgers visiting the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, a marquee matchup between the two best records in their respective leagues — the Dodgers come in at 61-36 and are slight favorites, so watch whether the Yankees bullpen can hold the heart of that Dodgers order in check late. Over in Philadelphia, the New York Mets are already on the board through three innings at Citizens Bank Park, though a 40-57 club stealing one from a Phillies team sitting at 54-43 would qualify as a minor upset. Also worth a glance is the Tampa Bay Rays — the hottest team in the American League at 56-38 — heading into Fenway Park for a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox, where the home side is listed as a slight favorite despite the Rays clearly being the better club on paper.

MLS The marquee game on this slate is the El Tráfico derby between LAFC and the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park, the fiercest rivalry in American soccer, and with LAFC sitting at 7-3-5 against a Galaxy side that has gone an even 5-5-5 on the season, the visitors will fancy their chances of picking up three points on enemy turf. Before that, keep an eye on Nashville SC hosting Atlanta United FC, where Nashville's red-hot 10-3-1 record makes them massive favorites at home against an Atlanta side that has managed just three wins all year. The Cascadia derby between the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field also deserves a look, with Seattle rolling at 7-3-3 and aiming to keep that momentum going against their regional rivals from down I-5.

WNBA Tonight's opener has the Portland Fire rolling into CareFirst Arena as 5.5-point underdogs against a Washington Mystics squad at 12-10 that should be able to get buckets at home without breaking a sweat. Tomorrow is where the slate really heats up: the Indiana Fever, one of the better teams in the league at 14-10, host a Seattle Storm team that's been taking the L all year at 6-20, and laying nearly 10 points tells you oddsmakers expect an absolute clinic. Also worth a look is the Los Angeles Sparks-Chicago Sky game, basically a pick'em with an over/under pushing 185 — two teams that need the win badly enough that it could get chippy in the paint all night.
