The morning line

MLB The marquee matchup to watch is the New York Yankees at Cleveland Guardians, a battle of two clubs jostling near the top of the American League — the Yankees have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the early going, so the heart of their order is already getting into their stuff. The Atlanta Braves, the hottest team on the slate at 45-21, head to Rate Field where they are heavy favorites over the Chicago White Sox, and that bullpen depth advantage could make this one feel over early if the starter goes deep. Keep an eye on the Milwaukee Brewers at the Athletics in Las Vegas, where oddsmakers have hung a big over/under of 11 runs, suggesting both teams could be going to the pen early and leaving plenty of opportunities for someone to walk it off.

NBA Tonight at Madison Square Garden, the San Antonio Spurs roll in with the best record in basketball at 62-20 to face the New York Knicks, and the Garden crowd is going to be absolutely electric. The Knicks are somehow catching a 1.5-point spread at home despite being the worse team on paper — MSG has a way of making that math work. With an over/under sitting at 215.5, expect buckets in bunches, and whoever can get it going in the paint late is going to be the story.

NHL The marquee game on the slate tonight is the Carolina Hurricanes visiting the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 PM Eastern on ABC. Carolina comes in as a slight favorite at -115, riding a dominant 53-22-7 record that makes them one of the best possession teams in the league, while Vegas at 39-26-17 will need a strong penalty kill and smart play around the crease to keep the Hurricanes' relentless forecheck from generating Grade-A looks in the slot. With an over/under of just 5.5, expect a tight, defensive battle where a shorthanded goal or a clutch stick save in the third could be the difference.

WNBA The headliner tonight has the New York Liberty rolling into Mohegan Sun Arena to take on a Connecticut Sun squad that is a rough 2-10 on the season — the Liberty are 12.5-point favorites, so the Sun are basically playing for pride at this point. Out west at 10 PM, the Las Vegas Aces are expected to eat the Seattle Storm alive at Michelob ULTRA Arena, with Vegas laying 15.5 points against a Storm team that has been struggling to get buckets all year. If you want the closest game on the board, the Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics tip at 7 PM — Fever are only 5.5-point favorites with an over/under of 171.5, which means both squads should be cooking in the paint all night.
