MLB The marquee game tonight is the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, where the league-best Yankees (48-31) roll into a struggling Red Sox club (32-46) that has been leaning heavily on the bullpen all month — if Boston's starter goes seven and keeps the heart of the order quiet, that changes the conversation, but the books have New York as heavy favorites. Out west, the Los Angeles Dodgers head to Petco Park to face the San Diego Padres in what shapes up as a pitchers' duel with an over-under of just 7.5, and at 52-29 the Dodgers have the kind of lineup that can leave the yard against anyone. Keep an eye on the Milwaukee Brewers hosting the Chicago Cubs — the Brewers are the hottest team in the NL at 49-29 and this is a getaway day test to see if the Cubs can steal one before the series wraps.

WNBA The marquee game on tonight's WNBA slate is the Dallas Wings rolling into Las Vegas to take on the Aces — two of the best teams in the league going at it, and with the Wings sitting at 11-6 and the Aces at 12-5 you know neither squad is taking the L lightly, even with Las Vegas favored by five and a half. Later tonight the Atlanta Dream, who've been getting buckets all season at 12-5, head out west to face the Golden State Valkyries in what's basically a coin flip at Chase Center, so that one could go down to the wire. If you want a third game to keep an eye on, the New York Liberty — also 12-6 — are visiting a Seattle Storm squad that just can't buy a bucket this year, and the Liberty have been an absolute clinic on both ends, so expect them to eat the Storm up in the paint early.

World Cup The marquee match of the day is France against Norway, two sides who've both gone a perfect two wins from two — whoever finds the net first will likely seal top spot in the group, and a nil-nil draw would still send both through but scramble the knockout bracket seedings. Also worth watching is the United States hosting Türkiye at SoFi Stadium: the Americans are the only unbeaten side with two wins, so they're in brilliant form, but a win is still the cleanest path to avoiding a nervy final-day scenario. Spain at Uruguay is the late-night intrigue — Uruguay are winless and desperate, which makes them dangerous, and Spain can't afford a slip if they want to advance on their own terms.
