The morning line

MLB The marquee game on this slate is the Boston Red Sox visiting the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium for a getaway day doubleheader — the nightcap is already delayed in the top of the first, with tomorrow's afternoon game lined up right behind it, and the Yankees come in as heavy favorites at -175 to take the series. Over in Houston, the Astros put a beating on the Athletics with a 13-2 shellacking heading into the top of the ninth, a blowout where somebody clearly went to the pen early and never looked back. Keep an eye on the Atlanta Braves hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates — Atlanta's sitting at 44-21 and the heart of their order has been punishing pitchers all year, so their starter will need to have his best stuff to keep the bullpen rested going into the weekend.

NHL Tonight's marquee game is the Carolina Hurricanes visiting the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, dropping the puck at 8:00 PM Eastern on ABC — and with the Hurricanes rolling in at 53-22-7, they come in as the clear top team by the numbers. Carolina has been relentless all year controlling the slot and suffocating opponents on the penalty kill, while Vegas will need a strong power play effort and some timely stick saves from their goalie to keep this one close through three periods. The Golden Knights' home ice could be the equalizer, but expect the Hurricanes to push hard on the forecheck and look for that top-shelf snipe to put this one away before anyone thinks about pulling the goalie.

WNBA The headliner tonight is Indiana Fever at New York Liberty out of Barclays Center — the Liberty are a 3.5-point favorite but the Fever have been getting buckets all season and this one should go down to the wire. Over at Gateway Center, the Atlanta Dream are already eating the Washington Mystics alive, up 12 at the half and looking like an absolute clinic on both ends of the floor. If you're only watching one, make it Liberty-Fever on CBS — two teams fighting for positioning and neither one takes an L quietly.
